Well, I seem to be alone then, because I think it looks pretty good.
I've only seen the piccies from Alan's link, but the castings seem significantly more substantial than the normal affair you get on a forty quid job, and you get the benefit (assuming it works how I'm guessing that it's intended to) of a controlled disassembly process if you need it.
The length adjustment seems pretty slow and cumbersome though, but I never adjust mine in any case - I just stand blocks of wood in front of the buffer from a selection I keep for the purpose. A flat base would be better for me rather than rails, but overall, I think it's a pretty nifty piece of thinking on the part of Axminster, and I wish I'd thought of it first.
Not so long ago, a mandrel was something you picked up for a few quid, but now everyone has to have the Axi compression version, which by comparison costs a small fortune. I predict that this pen press will be a market leader in the not too distant future too, and I bet they improve the length adjustment method before too long as well.
