I fancy making some of my own pen stands over the summer as I have some nice figured Walnut and Yew. I like the design of this one but rather than faffing around designing one I wondered if anybody knew of some plans kicking around? If nobody knows of any I suppose I'll just gave to faff!!

Cheers
Craig

I may be able to draw up some DXF files for you, but it may take 2-3 days :)

Why on earth would you need plans to drill a few holes and cut through them?

Thanks for the offer Phil but please don't go to any bother, I'll easily manage to scribble down something just thought there may be some in existence to save me the bother.

No I won't be selling them, they are just for my own stuff and in particular the fat pens, the acrylic stands don't hold them very well.

Good point grump. I've just got my first bandsaw. I know you would advise I try but it will be weeks before I can play. Would a bandsaw be subtle enough for the outside shape?

Mine is with a thin blade, very capable of cutting obtuse curves That whole stand could be cut from a single piece of wood with a few easy cuts

Not everyone us content with just hacking away at a bit of stick, some folk like to take their time, plan things out and make a decent job. Every single job I ever made in the workshop from geometric stairs to bar fixtures were all drawn out on a rod, that way you can mark the components accurately and duplicate them accurately if several were to be made, it reduces the potential for mistakes and ensures consistency. If some folk don't see the point in drawing a rod/plan that's fine but I don't see the need for belittling comments.

Not intended to belittle, just don't see the need on such a simple thing.
If that's how you want to do things then go ahead, that's your prerogative.
Wouldn't do for us all to be the same would it?
But we all have opinions and I like to voice mine and will do until silenced which I dare say won't be long eh Jim?

I'm from the disposable generation. You know it. Buy a tool get a gadget. Typical office worker that I am. It has to be said that Brian's straight talking has saved me a pretty penny and given me the confidence to think out of the box.

Then even more joy when other ideas and options follow as this makes me realise that there are many ways to achieve something. Cheers all.

Paul. Thank you for speaking up for me and making me read this thread again, on reflection I don't think I was rude, abusive or detrimental.
