How did your order go with PSI?
Did you get a bill for VAT and Customs?

Asking because I have just ordered from PSI this week. A suck it and see methodology.

Thanks in advance

I placed an order with them a few years ago and got stung by customs and the P.O wanted another £8 fee as well and it made the kits quite expensive so I haven't been back since

I risked it because they gave me 15% off my order and I had a further 10% because of signing up for their news letter. Any savings and a bit more made will I suspect be wiped out by VAT and customs, but as the items I have ordered I can not see anywhere in the UK, I thought I would give it a one off try.

I don' think its a dislike of PSI as such, even though their freight charges are (reportedly) ridiculously high.
I'm sure if import duty and VAT thresholds were raised to say imports over £250 only far more people would buy direct from them.
However some of their recently introduced pens are pretty ugly :face:

Bought $200 dollars worth and had a vat bill for £35.
It works out that what the price is in dollars you pay for in pounds anyway.
So $200 dollars worth of kit worked out at £190 sterling.
Good quality kits though.

Although some people don't like the new PSI designs i believe, there are just as many like me who do like them or at least some of them. for me pen turning is as much about design and individuality and uniqueness. For a company to embrace this is very rare and to be commended. saying that it's fine to dislike PSI designs.

I am of the same understanding Steve, regarding pen kits .. Nothing wrong with trying them out .. Also it doesn't mean because i don't like them that a customer feels the same ..

The above is true of so many things. In the case of pen designs like them or not, there is or appears to be a greater choice of designs within the U.S. If Penn State had a long term reliable seller in the U.K, I suspect they would do well alongside their current range, however I understand the risk of maybe having to buy large amounts of stock, for a smaller market will put all but the bigger traders off. Time will tell.

Thinking out loud it could be that as a group, somewhere in the future, there would be enough interest and buying power for a dealer to consider running with this idea. Just like the thread for pastry brushes it could lead to a strong group with strong buying power. Just saying my ten penneth worth.

There is nothing wrong with this idea John, if you/we generate enough interest and money upfront it could work .. :thinks:

Good quality kits though.

That's what I work all my purchases at when buying from over the pond, for every $1 works out equal to around £1.

The exchange rate is what everyone sees and think they are getting a great deal, but when landed it isn't quite such a deal, or so they think.

But as said before you get a kit that is not available here in the UK to that design or quality.

If everyone treats the prices as £ sterling they won't go far wrong.
