Has anyone made a complete pen from the shavings?

I kept all the shavings from a pen and then made a blank by mixing them with titebond glue. I put this into a blank sized box I made and put it in the aga for a few days after it refused to dry.

When eventually I tried drilling holes in it, it moved about a lot and the hole ended up all shapes.

Having filled in quite a few holes with the shavings which quite often look like burrs, I thought it would make a good looking pen....

Don't think I'll bother at the moment Paul... I couldn't afford to have an Aga put in at present.:whistling:

I did try this when I first started turning pens but the end result was not so good.
Might as well have tried turning a pen with chipboard.
Could be different now I can have a better selection of shaving but don't fancy the idea till I see yours.
As Ed says bloody expensive having the Aga put in too.

How spooky, I was looking at all the shavings from my plastic day on Sunday and thought, wonder if you could do something with them.

Then threw them in the bin :funny:

Unfortunately it fell to bits. I won't give in though so I'll find a better way to do it, maybe around a tube, a bit at a time. An aga is used for drying wood, much to ere indoors dismay.

That would be one way to do it David. I haven't tried using resin yet so maybe the way to go

I got a chipboard blank in a job lot of blanks I bought. It had been impregnated with resin looked quite good when I had turned it. I will take a photo tomorrow so you can have a look.

Guess resin is the way to go with this idea, but it would have to be tightly compressed surely for it to work? :thinks: I am sure Frankie did or mentioned this method for using turned acrylic Phill .. .:thinks:
