The shape did not turn out as originally intended, had a couple of catches putting a ring on the bottom.

That's nice indeed, maybe it's just me or the angle of the picture but it looks a little top heavy ?

I think its just the angle of the photo
The wood is a yellowish wood very plain looking the guys at my woodturning club thought it was some type of Teak will post photo of bit later.
IT was used for lowering containers onto on an oil rig.
Sanding sealer and microcrystaline wax

My eyes deceive me I had to double take on the pic.
When I first looked I thought it was a cinema screen with a 9 foot dildo in front of it.
A better angle on the pic would help us to see exactly what you have created there, I am sure it's very nice.

A better view of it will make it look better.

Looks good to me, and i wouldn't worry about the shape as you done a fine job after a your dig ins .. :thumbs:
