I was talking to Bill Mooney at York last Saturday and he showed me a planer blade that has an edge on the long end section. Bill uses the blade for turning his blanks in pen making.
This morning the postman delivered an envelope containing 2 planer blades for me to try.
Bill you are one of the best. Many thanks !!!!:thumbs::thumbs:

Take a guess
Great gesture from Bill

How does it differ from a skew chisel :thinks:

Any chance of a photo young Terry?

I haven't had a chance to put an edge on them but they are similar to a skew or a carbide. From what I can gather from Bill you just put two fingers on the wide section to steady the blade and then let the cutting edge do the work.
Bill can probably explain the method a bit better than I can.
All I can say is Bill turns some beautiful pens !!!!

The planer blade is approx 5.5" long & is sharpened at both ends, a slow curve on one end & square at the other end. it is ground negative rake so has a bevel on each side like a skew. I ground the edge off the long cutter bevel for my own safety. The pics below will give you some idea.
