Another tick in the box Peter. With pens there are several things I look at; the wood, the fitting; the style and the finish. You always fill every requirement in my eyes and this is no exception.

No Woody Yellow Box Burl is from a tree that grows to a huge size highly prized for fuel as it is extremely heavy used in slow combustion will burn all night, I have some in my stash when it pops up I will make a pen it is very attractive along the lines of Brown Mallee. It grows all round where I live care is needed because all Eucalypts shed limbs and branches suddenly sometimes devastating especially this heavy tree there is one down my street about 2-3 hundred yrs old must have been a field tree natural to the area. It typifies Australian trees and decent burls are rareish and harder than. As a kid my dad looked for this incredible fuel wood but it burns so hot it stuffs up fire bricks, can warp metal framed stoves. A typical axe breaker.

Had a brain wave remembered a small patch of these quick pic on the kitchen table of IMHO very desirable Yellow Box Burl blanks, why cause of the sapwood in these as well, the colour is lighter and yellowish as I find in all burl hard to get true colour. I agree it can be neat to work with but in old dry log form arm strengthening and knuckle busting. All the best.

Kind regards Peter.
