I had the same problem on my myford a few years back, the spring had broken.

I managed to get mine out by using a pulled apart biro and used the tube to suck it out.

I turned a wooden plug out with an hole in the middle to push the biro in too, then taped it to the end of my vacuume unit as I didn't fancy filling my gob with the crap in there.:goesred:

I thought the side would come off fairly easily Mark mostly through holes in this side. Have fun with the suction. If its stuck in there a short squirt of degreasing spray may free it first, the type that acts as a lubricant as well. Lets know how you go.

REmoved and waiting on our mail system that now has first and second class designations, gone are the good old days except o/night any city in Aus is still cheap. I remember sending you a parcel one time that got to you in 4 days but understand that is rare in your most remote location.

I got the new button oilers 20 X 6 mm for $4.43 from flea bay, before I removed the buggered one.
They are about $7.00 each here in Aust.

I tried sucking it out, didn't work, glue didn't work, lightly tapped it with a punch wouldn't budge.

Mark early on I rang Brett on the 15th see my post above, the freecall number for asset was on the Asset site you quoted, saving three dollars cost you a week waiting sorry to hear that. It should not stop you from using the lathe you can oil through the hole and Gaffer over the gap till it shows up. Take care

Success at last.

Remove the shear pin on head stock end of the lead screw,
undo and remove lead screw bush block on tail stock end.
Loosen the two tension cup-head screws, undo the two big cup-head screws at the front of the carriage cones of easy as pie.

Note the bonus finger prints, someone with smaller fingers than me, quick scrub with kero wouldn't budge then.:shocking::nooidea:

The two cup-head screws that hold the apron on.
I will get some new ones next time I go down the street.:vangry:
