Having to make contact with some people today. ... I was sick of hearing about the end of life due to the snow... why does England come to a stop when six snowflakes fall in the same day...

Bet some on this forum could share photos of real snow... heres the view from my house of the world ending snow !! It’s almost covered the grass on the sleeping neighbours although it’s -5

We came back from Singapore in 2010 our furniture was due to arrive beginning of december, but because Grangemouth docks froze over we did'nt get our furniture till30 Dec so were in a 5 bedroomed farmhouse with blow up beds and cardboad boxes for tables at xmass time,,,,,,, no problems we had my daughter and 2 grandkids over sleeping in sleeping bags and they loved it ,, but understand where you are coming from,,,, why oh why does winter always " catch the councils by surprise" it realy is pathetic how many times do they need to be surprised before they learn the lesson

It is that bad down here in Kent I had to go out and look for a snow flake to slip up on, could not find one so made my own woodturners snow

I know where you are coming from and us "old farts" tend to remember when there was proper snow and everyone just got on with it.

One of the main reasons is that when It snowed back then allot of farmers, quarries and everyone got together and cleared it.

However in the "claims" society we find ourselves in nowadays it has put everyone off doing their bit and so makes it more difficult for everyone.

I remember spending hours on the roads keeping them clear and never had a problem, however it was stopped due to the council not allowing it due to personal claims increase to them.

Sad times but I'm afraid until people can see that whatever others can do to help and except that even a little help really helps and not then moan and groan because they hadn't cleaned it correctly or hadn't put some salt down to prevent them from slipping..

I had a neighbour saying to me today that I shouldn't clear my drive as if the postman slipped on it then they could claim against me and if I had left the snow then they couldn't claim..

Sad times but that's where most of the problems are, health and safety and claims culture is killing us.

I feel for those unable to heat in snow conditions, personally my choice has been to avoid living in snow country. Most of my ancestors felt the same. I have friends though that love living in Canberra for the close proximity to Winter Sports and the Coast.

Dont know what you whinging about, I have looked at a lot of photos of snow and never got cold once.

You could only risk any sort of litigation if your actions made conditions worse (eg pouring water around that refroze).

Certainly not perpetuating... Do you really believe google is right?

You could only risk any sort of litigation if your actions made conditions worse (eg pouring water around that refroze).

But so many "no claim no fee" companies are encouraging this to happen so so many wont take the risk.

Fake news and misinformation is even worse.

Not fake news, as I can only give my experiences and what I was advised by the local highways department and the snow and ice can now only be cleared by persons "contracted" to do that work.

That could be farmers and the like, however they have to follow highways guidelines so to minimise any incedents and also have to have suitable insurance to allow them to even do the work.

So as you see having experience in this area does hold water and is NOT fake news.

Unfortunately law of tort wins over in the end and as there has been claims in the past everyone tends to work along those lines and protect themselves..

Do you really believe google is right?

Google is just a search engine it doesn't offer information itself on this. What it can do is point you to accurate articles published elsewhere.
How about the UK government's own advice; Clear snow from a road, path or cycleway - GOV.UK or Clearing ice and snow from footways | nidirect
Some councils advice; Clearing snow and ice from pavements and public spaces or Clearing snow and ice from pavements | Clearing snow and ice from pavements | City of York Council

But so many "no claim no fee" companies are encouraging this to happen so so many wont take the risk.

Are they ? Can you list any instance where a claims company has suggested claiming against an individual for damages regarding falls on ice ? or an instance where such a claim has been upheld ? or are you just guessing ?

That directly contradicts the official advice quoted above.
