Ok ok..



So I have been buying quite a bit of my wood for the boxes from a small joiners shop that has off cuts, very often needed a little more processing but I felt it was worth it.. I consider I was paying a fair price as he was originally selling it off as bulk waste every 6 months and wasn't getting what I was paying for it.. it also kept his bins clear and kept the yard tidy.

Now he has found out that I am making boxes and selling them he has quadrupled his prices..

I could buy new PAR timber for what he wants me to pay for it..

After discussions he thought I was using it as firewood, he feels that because I am now making money from it he believes that he should be able to charge me more.....FFS..

It isn't as if I was just creaming off the good stuff and leaving him to get rid of the chaff, i always emptied his bin of everything, sorted through it at home and gave the firewood to my son.

Talk about cutting ya nose off ta spite ya face Johnny.....

Rant over..

But then again.. FFS..

Mind you, got a nice piece of Kingwood today. Sized to make a nice single box..always end on a good note and a smile eh!

Just goes to show what greed will do. I am lucky as where I get some of mine from they know what I use it for and still give it to me for free as it does them a favour of getting rid of it for free win win

Typical reaction I am afraid mate. For me there was a guy in our club who used to come to me for Hairy Oak (expensive to me) for ages, let me know he was getting twenty to thirty bucks for his Slimlines (this twenty yrs ago), I am afraid his supply dried up as well. Now here we have a guy who used you to dispose of his surplus,I suspect entirely at no cost to him.

I think Terry's right. If you are going to pay premium price (or even "fair going price for lumber" versus "cheap price and I will clean up your mess"), there's no point in sorting, carting unwanted wood, or investing all of the time. I had a similar situation arise many years ago. I politely excused myself from the business arrangement when the price went sky high. About six months later (when no one wanted to clean up the mess made by the scrap supplier), I got a call, an apology, and a plea to come back.

I still haven't been back.

What a lot of business don't realise is that there is always someone else willing to fill the gap, however he wasn't the only supplier I used so its no big loss to me .

I'm not desperate for timber stock as I have enough in to last. I already buy new timber to get the right mix and availability for customers, that is reflected in the prices already so any new stuff may have to reflect in the price also.. Simple maths really.

In reality I wasn't treading on hit "turf" or rubbing his nose in it Peter [MENTION=122]Penpal[/MENTION] I can't really see why he has an issue as its not even in his area of expertise..

He specialises in bespoke hand made house furniture for high end houses and also registered with historic England working on listed buildings.

Just think I got him on a bad day, old eccentric character..

Know the feeling both of old and eccentric Eamonn,trust it resolves in the positive. The franchise holder for Corian (utter pig) would rather scrap tons of his product than give it to me. At first I opted to buy when he measured every square inch and doubled the price. He also said no one can successfully make pens from the 1/2 inch stuff bla bla bla. I found a kitchen manufacturer using Corian who used to give me a boot full of his offcuts at a time happily. I made 30 pens and went to the afforsaid franchiser, his wife the partner said I will buy all of them,I declined the sale merely pointing out pens from the product were not only possible but beautiful as well. I freely admit drilling 7mm holes in half inch squared Corian is delicate,I used to drill hundreds at a time in my drill press.
