In 1955 when we built our home econmy was vital. Following the war bricks were almost unavalable. We squeezed in as much as we could in a our 3,000 pound house. The builder was mean spirited and my role was to do as much of the work as possible. I dug the foundations by pick, mattock and shovel, mixed and poured the footings. Painted the weatherboards. Stood the frames, carried in and stood the staircase, wired the house as an apprenticed Sparky, newly licensed at completion signed off on the power.
Then in the kitchen installed a Rayburn Oven, Hotplates etc with a boiler built into the unit giving us almost free hot water, our power bill was One Pound a quarter. We loved that Rayburn.
Check out the firebricks inside. Keep it a distance from showering wood dust when fuelling it. Sounds good to me.
