After my colouring failure and the colours not being able to be rescued I thought that I would complete the hollow form cut some dimples and stain it black with gold to highlight the dimples.

Here is the failed colour attempt.

Anyway C & C welcome on the hopefully successful rescue

Sorry but I like the green finish nicely done on the form and shape and finish,

Take a guess
They are both nice Derek though I prefer the green/blue.

As an aside & I'm guessing the first photo shows spirit stain colouring, it makes a hell of a difference if you use orange spirit stain on top of your base colour, it really can lift the piece.

After hundreds of Antique Road Show at first the turning reminded me of pottery with a failed glaze on the bottom then a much improved form with heaps going on and a lot off. I only like the 2nd its magic mate.

I think the black and gold looks great Derek but I haven't got a clue how to do it :thumbs:

If you can turn a shape either a bowl or hollow form then you are a good way to being there. The hardest part is taking whatever tool you choose to a perfectly turn piece. This was done with a multi tool and a ball type diamond burr and just keep grinding dimples. The next stage is to stain it whatever colour you choose the last step before applying a finish is to apply gold gilt so it goes into the dimples and rub off the excess. and as said apply a finish with this type of work a spray on finish is best in thin coats
