Resin casting patterns

Hi All

I'm really getting into the casting, I'm a great at extrapolation, I can see something and can spin off into a multitude of different tangents/options, what I can't do easily is come up with the original process, is there any where any tutorials on how to cast blanks that aren't just a series of coloured resins swirled together.

I was looking at Exotic Blanks the other day(Exotic Blanks) and I am puzzled by how he gets what he gets, same thing with Buckeyes blanks.

I would be grateful for any pointers as far as techniques are concerned.

Hi Kevin,
I'm a complete beginner, but am amazed at all the beautiful effects that can be created by resin casting and polymer clay. I hope to be able to experiment soon ! I have seen some lovely and interesting effects ( in books )by including different things in the resin , acorns , wood shavings or feathers for example. I haven't tried anything myself yet but thought I would pass on the information.

Thanks for the reply, so far I've made about 30-40 blanks which probably isn't many by comparison to others on this site, but I really am enjoying it, that's why I wanted to develop my skill base, I'm going to spend a bit more time looking at what can be done in the gel stage as I feel that's where I can improve on my casting.

Hope that you have some success as well.

It was watching Dai Sensi Neil whilst I was looking up stabilization that the casting bug took hold, I understand the process, I just wondered if anyone was willing to share the steps and methods of their secret processes.
I'm still hopeful.

I think its mainly timing and the weather conditions
if you want non swirly type casts try casting plain blanks
be it metalic or plain or both then
break them up and recast in a contrasting colour Frankie.
