I turned this pink resin (for the Mrs) pen yesterday - the first resin blank I have tried. Turned ok, but transparent in places down to the brass. Are they all like this - the light coloured resin blanks ?

Hi Andrew, it looks pretty. some turners paint the tubes beforehand, some paint the inside of the blank, and some (me) paint both.
It makes a difference and it can also enhance the colouring.

Hi, Yes I use a cotton bud and paint the inside of the blank. Someone on here a while ago did a couple of pens to show the difference between painting the the blank with a matching colour, a contrasting colour and not at all, suprisingly made a really big difference:pray::pray:

I find acrylic paint on a pipe cleaner works well and the pipe cleaner can be rinsed and reused. Like John I usually paint the tube and the inside of the blank.

I have an embarrassingly large collection on different coloured nail polishes from pound shops, to paint the inside of the drilled hole.

(it's OK, my wife already knows)

I agree with comments above to paint both the tube and blank. May need to overdrill/file the hole a tad. I also use 2 part epoxy for the tube and a drop of paint is enough to give the glue a tint. I have not noticed any less adhesion with this method.

Not to hijack your thread, but these two blanks are the same, except one had yellow back paint and one had black.

Stellar pen Mate!
