A sample of what I make for sale at the gun shows with various styles of caps.
I build various calibers from .223 up to BMG 50 cal that take either Cross or Parker refills.

Ian,

Make one, they're easy enough! I've got some 7.62 cartridges, or Alex can sell you a handfull. We had a competition on here a while back and about ten members made one for the first time, so there's no excuse! Someone will dredge up the link and post it Im sure. Sorry Les trying to do you out of business here.

Neil,

Don't understand why would you purposely be trying to do me out of business there??
Nice, thank you!

I use whole casings and real projectiles for the nib rather than a slimline nib to get an authentic Rifle Cartridge pen.

Les

I tried to do that Les but couldn't get the drilling right.

Don't know really how to reply to this post because I can see what has been written but I don't know if there is any sarcasm intended or whether it was written with a wry smile?

However, if you feel sore that I did seek to purposely "do me (you) out of business", then so be it, but it does show that I don't think you understand the mentality behind this forum. There are many turners and penturners here, some new, some experienced, some good and others with more (than others) to learn, some young, but many older, some who turn occasionally and others who turn everyday. Regardless of the different levels that we are each at, this forum is foremost what we would call "woodturning down the pub", very much a social interaction at the same time as being essentially a woodturning inspired forum. I know not of the mentality of the community pub, drinking house or similar establishment in Canada, but here the pub is very much an establishment where you can turn up, alone, and talk with others without the formality of establishing a relationship. We happily drop in at others houses to see those here that we have never met before and the friendships formed here are certainly unusual for an internet forum, there is no room for politics or egos here - not that you have necessarily displayed either, I say that only for illustrative purposes.

In short the ethos of this forum would be to actively encourage those to do what they have never done, even at the expense of a commercial sale, hence my comment encouraging Ian to make his own. Nobody has joined this forum with the sole purpose of promoting their own business venture and remained a regular and meaningful contributor, the record will show that others showed their true commercial colours and given short shrift, not, again, that you have done this, I mention it purely to try and relate the ethos of this forum and to explain why I stand by my encouragement to Ian to make his own!
