On the end grind a 45 degree face either side job done very handy. My first thought though was the join of the ring may have taken the temper out of the shaft.
Or buy some carbide tips and make up your own tool as you already have the shaft / handle. Plenty of info on how to do it if you look and advice on the forum on where to buy the tips.

As Peter alludes to, the bar may not be suitable for holding an edge but Lons suggestion of making it into a tool for holding carbide tips could well be worth some consideration
Two very good suggestions there carbide tip or a pointed tool just grind three sides flat and to a point and you will have a very handy tool there I use mine on every bowl I make and you can roll beads & balls even use it as a skew
I wouldnt be without mine Vic I got mine last year from Ashley Iles at the Newark show last year the price they wanted for the steel it wasn't worth buying the steel to make one
Very useful John it is one of old Bill Jones designs and you have three cutting edges I use mine on every bowl I make to decorate the base they will cut your dovetail they work wonders on end grain when decorating spindles and pens rolling beads and balls also they can be used as a skew the only limits are your imagination
Just to throw another suggestion in the pot, drill a hole up through the end into the bar.
Anther in the side and tap it, add a grub screw you now have a boring tool holder.
Make some tools from old drill bits and start hollowing init?
