Do you have more of the system I went to Robert Sorby have a page of the Modular tool system I must say it worries me greatly screwing a tool rest on a post is a beaut idea how to lock it in position so when used on an awkward position the rest wont swivel and cause a dangerous condition with all your gear its a piece of cake to weld a secure tool rest for special purposes.. I don,t use a single round rest I settled on a 45 degrees flat rest some years ago happily it seems to be so restful to have more of the chisel supported this way what do you think Mark?.

I notice Woody in his video today uses a round rest similar to the Sorby one perhaps Woody would comment on his choices.

Perhaps he's already got a Sorby stem and wants to make a new rest?

M14 x 2 Grump, you must haves arms like popeye! I struggle with M12 at times! :funny:

I made a couple of rest that thread onto a 1" stem, not sure of the thread, M10 or M12 and they haven't moved. I used silver steel for the rest as it's quite tough and nice and smooth.

If you don't got a tap or die the right size, change the thread to one you do have, simples init?
Specially if live in the back of beyond like Mark does and with a lame finger and snakes in the shed.

Popeye is a whimp init?

Agreed, unless he wants to make it interchangeable with the Sorby rests he can please himself. I think M10 or M12 should be about right or indeed 3/8" or 7/16" if he has the tools. The silver steel I used for the rest is I think only 3/4" diameter so I didn't want to go too big in case it made it too weak. Sadly there's no way I can put an S bend in a short length of 3/4" bar like Sorby do so if I want one of those I'll have to buy it!

I have used this system for years, never had a problem, Just screw the cross bar on and give it a bit of a bang with your hand ( not my L/hand ATM) and Bobs your uncle.

This is the reason why.

Wonder what the Aussie equivalent is?
