A friend dug up a rose yesterday and so I snatched the root, cut it up and dried if on the cooker over night. This is the result with 10 layers of ca.

Brill idea, that's one material I never really thought of or sen used before..

Pen looks to have a great finish, not sure if it needed a little more off in the centre band and tip areas tho..Might just make the difference between top end pen to high class pen.. If you know what I mean..

I do know exactly what you mean and I would normally have taken more off. My excuse for not taking off more is that on the weekend at Yandles show I bought a honing mop for my Robert Sorbey Pro. I sharpened my skew chisel to a razor like sharpness and didn't want to touch the bushes and blunt it. I'll clean my glasses for the next one and get closer.

Thanks for the critique.

Sorry to disappoint all who think this is unique idea but it has been done before although that takes nothing away from the docs pen, it is a fine piece indeed.
Your so called Buckeye Burr is only root from conker tree (Horse Chestnut). Or if ya wanna do it the Yankee way (Aesculus californica, California Buckeye Burl or California Horse-chestnut).
I think we all went through a root phase a few years ago turning Hydrangea and rose roots it is wood after all init?
Nice pen Doc lovely finish good pic init?

I am still at the root phase and will always be into roots as long as someone else digs them up and gives them to me:pray:

I have done the tree roots Grump, but never gave it a thought to do rose root..

That's all I'm saying, besides I was probably not part of the old fart brigade that did it a few years ago..:ave_it:

Me not being one that is.. Init....:face:
