I only plug the ends and dip it in a Sterident tube of primer let it dry and put it back on the lathe to ca and polish it you wouldn't know it ain't plastic to look and feel it.
Saves all the splitting and faffing about drilling carefully, any old bit of wood does the job init?

She left her nail varnish in my shed, I might finish it off for her.
