The first thing I noticed was that the mechanism was in two parts which screw together the kit looks pretty much the same as any other Sierra kit in quality it required a 27/64" drill bit the same as Timberbits
All of the components fitted together well with no problems what so ever I dressed it in Elm Burr because I think it suits the kit very well
In all a good quality kit with very positive quality mechanism which to me is paramount I would most definitely buy these kits thank you Dan I have also put it on turning art facebook for you Dan there is a link at the bottom of the page

Sorry about the kit photo being a bit out of focus I didn't notice it till I had made the pen up

So they have changed the tube diameter yet again?
The older ones than I am using now used to go inside my 10mm acrylic tubes but the ones I have now are the same size as the hole so will not fit.
A 27/64" is not even gonna look the hole init?
Worth bearing mind to check before drilling I think.
Nice to see the old style pictures coming out too dad show's you are human after all, I was beginning to have my doubts about who they put in your skin when you had that op init?
Welcome back Sir Woody crap pics and all, all that money and effort on a light tent and fancy lights just to get poop pics I love it.
Can rub it in some more dad?
Oh yeah let's hope the new camera does it all for you cos you is useless.:funny::funny::funny::funny::funny:
Love you init?

Not bad for a beginner Granddad !!!! LOL
I measured my tubes and 10.5mm was spot on. I also notice on yours that you have the knurled centre band which I prefer so it proves that Dan can get them so you have your choices folks !!!!!

Interesting you say that Terry because I have just pulled from my stock another Sierra, This one has a plain double bead to match the the top and sure enough the tube measures bang on 10.5mm not 27/64ths as predicted. mine are all old stock from various suppliers over many years.
So I cannot say with any degree of certainty unless it states on packet where they came from and what date.

If you read the idiots guide for the Sierra from Timberbits it says that a 10.5mm drill is the correct size Brian !!!!

Not on the destruction's I downloaded it don't.
Why would I read an idiots guide, That's far to advanced for me init?
Where is the doombrain guide?
And why would a 10.5mm be the correct size for a 9.5mm tube which most of mine are?

My point was the different sizes over the years, you never know what your gonna get Forest.
A good idea to order bushes at the same time so you stand a chance of having a fitting set when you come to the end of your lollipop init?

Got to say that the Sierra kits do look miles better in terms of quality of parts. Thats a beautiful pen mate, and the Elm really sets the kit off a treat!!

Interesting I went on the Axminster site and they say 27/64 or 10.73 so I went to the shed where I have a folder and the Axminster instructions which come with the kit definitely say 10.5mm

I think you will find the new tubes are once again enlarged, they will make their minds up one day.
I have experienced this before with other kits of which I can't think at the moment but it seems they adjust to what ever stock they can source at the time.
As we are all aware all production is done within tolerances but on precision equipment the tolerances have to be that much lower and they are not.

It's a lovely piece of burr and a cracking pen, wish I had tubes to start/finish mine.
