Router Table Saw Wing Extension.

I have a cast iron router table-saw extension wing, that I dont use, as it a PITA to use, always in the way of the T/S.

I was thinking about making one out of MDF approx 685mm x 600mm
The cast iron one is only 685mm X 255mm
My router is a Triton, I have the winder handle kit, a while ago I bought a Incea 7518 router plate.

How would you affix it to the T/S?, the T/S fence brackets are not very long.

Without seeing the underside of the table part with the router in it; I would drill a pair of holes on each side section of that table to receive 2 bolts with wing nuts on the exterior, then mount 2 metal bars along the side of the extension bed such that the 2 bars could be bolted onto the side on the existing table. Here's a quick and dirty sketch idea as an attachment, its in PDF so you should be able to open it.

Sketch fro Pierre make sense Mark. I added a router table to my SIP table saw several years ago but due to space limitations I needed mine to fold away so I bolted with wing nuts a length of ash to the edge of the saw table and hinged it to another fixed to the router table. Because it folds I needed a frame rather than bars to level it up and this solution works so well for me that it's needed no alterations since fitted. The whole thing takes around 10 mins to remove should I need extra access for saw repairs.

Thanks Pierre and Bob makes a lot of sense, I like the fold down idea Bob, just what I need in my incredible shrinking shed.

If I turn the fence around, I only have 125 mm of table area.

But unless you are going to rout whole doors or window frames you only need that small area as you create the frames to be assembled later to make the windows etc you can overhang a piece of wood by about a 1/3 before it becomes unwieldy.

I bought it in a few years ago from a UK company, Rutlands. Bought as a lot included with the table very cheaply when they had them on sale. The fence is pretty good, table just about ok after some adjustment but I threw away the insert and bought an Incra ( which cost a fair bit more than the table & fence ) also a Router Raiser lift kit.

I had intended to make the table and fence from scratch Mark but the deal at the time was too tempting.

Like the suggestions so far. Mark I rejoined the metalwork unit of U Beaut Forum because I have been offered a 9 inch Hercus with lots of extras by a friend. I asked him to send me pics of his lathe its about the same vintage as mine and condition,in a few days when I figure out the way to send the pics I will put them on that forum. He is downsizing and moving soon,wants all the bits etc to be sold as one unit. While there I noticed your intention to pursue the restoration of you AR? some time back. Every day I am bombarded with terrific articles on U Tube it would really pay you to sign nin on a couple under the heading of Hercus or the American Original.I received a new windscreen today following the hail storm.

English members I feel for you with the scary as floods and terrible weather right now and trust you are all ok.Big black storm brewing here right now glad the car is under cover.
