I am showing you mine been up and about since 4.30 am now about 6 am heavy frost 4 mile barefoot to the workshop some pics of my monster over and under Pin router not quite as old as me. Where I worked at the ANUniversity we covered hundreds of buildings workshops as a maint Sparky in the W W dept this guy in charge of the w shop asked me for help with this unit the router identical to my one now died in the bum I gave him all the info where to get it rewound lazy person he was never got around to nit. So it languished for a couple of years he got moved to another place this machine without router went to disposal. I followed its progress paid 5 dollars scrap price? it was then mine, heavy as thing. (I have a hydraulic moveable engine lifter so I removed and installed it myself). year or so later an ad in the paper for gear guess what in amongst was an old replica of the original from a dispersal sale. The bracket that holds the Router either over or under 3/4 inch steel I bought the steel and had an engineer mate make it to suit for me. I paid him a magnum of top red wine his mouth is still hanging slack but I believe the labourer is worthy of the hire.

I use it various ways set up now as I used it recently to level step cut burl for a pen rest. the foot control under moves the router up and down when it is in position I lock it there and move the burl by hand under freehand. The router is powerful sounds like a V2 Rocket but its a ripper.

i have the rutland one that is always on offer. It seems good for the money. I avoid the company where possible, but credit where it is due.

Take a guess
nice build
did u find the 18mm was thick enough for fence?
i guess you not use any router bits bigger than 36mm?

what was the make of insert?

It's a long time ago but I think the plate was a Tilgear Router Insert Plate

I've yet to have a problem using the 18mm MDF as sacrificial fences the aperture in the aluminium fence is nearly 3" & the MDF moves back beyond that. My biggest router cutter is a 2" mitre lock cutter & works fine in this table though this set up is mainly used for small jobs where it is quicker to use than setting up the spindle moulder.

I had one of the cast iron tabled versions variously stocked as Record, Charnwood and for a time Axminster. It was a disaster, absolute rubbish and impossible to use accurately. To their credit Axminster took it back. After that I had planned to make my own but then an urgent job for my son came up and I needed a router table quickly. I got one of the Rutlands ones on special ( very frequent) and after a bit of fettling it is surprisingly accurate. No frills but it does the job. To be honest I use the router less and less these days, I have gone back to hand tools under the influence of Paul Sellers and I rather wish I had done so sooner.

Steve I believe the Kreg plate is phenolic, I used to have the Trend phenolic plate but found it started to sag under the weight of the router over time that's why when I build this latest table I bought an anodised aluminium plate, just a thought :nooidea:
