I have learnt today of the sad passing of Mark Baker the Editor of the woodturning magazine which he did for many years. I personally have had quite a few phone call with him and spoken to him at length at different venues.

A very sad day for his family and friends as well as the woodturning community at large he will certainly be missed

I saw this on FB, really sad to lose such a talent and one so keen to share everything with us all. A real sad loss to the turning community.

A very sad loos indeed. Not only was Mark the editor of Woodturning Magazine, along with several other magazines under the GMC umbrella, he was a sought after demonstrator, a popular and effective ambassador for woodturning in general, a mentor to both turners and budding writers too numerous to mention, and an all round good egg and thoroughly nice fellow. His passing must be devastating for his family no matter how expected it had been in recent months, and is a huge loss to the international woodturning community.

RIP Mark Baker

So sad, I had the pleasure of knowing Mark through his visits to the country’s most unorthodox woodturning club at Bedford Saw and Tool shop, he had the ability to read his audience and teach to the most novice and experienced simultaneously. I got to know him during those visits and he pestered me to submit a piece to the mag at the back on the get to know the wood Turner section they use to run. Because he was so paranoid about the health and safety aspects of our hobby/work, the renovation of the workshop would have required a rebuild so we agreed to leave it! Probably best all round. RIP Mark.
