Saw these in Ikea

Saw these the other night in local Ikea and thought ....they are cheap...

They just have a use in the workshop..

I use magnetic strips for all my turning tools, but you have to ground the handles because the magnets cannot take the full weight. Knives are much lighter.

For £7 I wonder how good they would be.
I payed about $70.00 for the one the one that was in the kitchen.
Holds a near 1 kilogram striking knife, 700 gram or so meat cleaver, plus all the other knifes.
Missus did like it any more because it held the knife to hard, told me to dump it.
No relocated to my shed.

Ha! Mark - I bet a whole bunch of wives get expensive magnetic knife holders for their kitchens for Christmas this year (and a bunch of us have them in our shops by Easter). You are a genius.

I bought a magnetic tool bar from the Snap-On man many years ago when I was a mechanic. It's nice and strong and fine for things like sockets and spanners but it not so good for HSS turning tools. Quite often tools drop off when they're in the mood!

The problem with magnetic bars for tools that you sharpen is that they magnetise the tools, then when you sharpen the tool, and don't pay attention, the ground bits stay attached to the sharp edge which then makes grooves in the work piece or they take some time to remove by hand. I prefer to hold my tools by clips to the board then they don't fall down and they don't make groove in the work pieces. I do use magnetic mounts for the non sharpened tooling however like squares jaws etc.

7 pound over your way 7Dollars over her for those three will report back tomorrow,their paring knives cheap as chips. I do curse Ikea you buy real easy, takes forever to get to the paying end so I will take my wheels and Wilma can leave via the entrance and I will motor the long walk out. I will try to get a pic to show the real size of this business located next to our Airport. Vast is the word.

Not interested in the magnetic strip I bought the three knives and many others. Our Ikea is so large from way back it took these three pics to cover the area. I used my wheels ,glad I did ,what a rabbit warren.

That's just like ours here I recon the bed section is really where you stay overnight 1/2 way round when visiting...

Look out for the doors that are the short cuts
