I have found that these coated slimlines are usually not very end user friendly in so much as the coatings wear off very quickly (only lasting a few months if it is an every day user) leaving a very tatty looking pen .I will use this one as my every day pen and report back my findings on wear and tear properties of this kit latter on. I also found with this particular kit that a pen press was not necessary for pressing the nib cone into the tube as I managed to just by pressing it in with my fingers..maybe some glue will be needed later to keep it in place. I see it as no better or worse that most other fancy kits on the market at this present time.

Would be good to hear some feedback on the platings Ed, i like the way you have shaped around the C/B on this pen also, it gives you the chance to have the barrels slightly thicker than normal. I like it Ed ..

Very nicely turned and finished Ed. I'm not sure if I like the colour of the kit or just don't like it with the wood you've used.

A better pic for you Paul ...I think the background colour of the kit matches the buckthorn to a tee ..look a lot nicer in the hand .P1010222.jpg

That wood reminds me of bamboo, a good looking pen, I buy gunmetal and trivalent chrome and so far haven't had a problem, but there are always warnings about certain platings not being durable so I don't like to take too much of a risk with the really cheap kits. It will be good if you can keep us informed about how it holds up.

I think it has an antique look about it Paul, this plating looks much better than the Brass that is available currently .. :bwink:

Correct Jim ..looking at it in the hand it gives the appearance of having a distressed finish giving the whole pen a 'Lived in look' I would call it an Antique Bronzed finish which really doesn't come over on the picture. It looks very nice. If it comes though the wear test I have ideas for a range of pens for it.
