The etched brass tube doesn't scratch as easily as a painted tube. Of course, this method works for covering the tube in black.

So I have a choice of using the brass as is, using a white colored tube, making it black with the chemical etching, or painting the tube and the inside of the drilled blank with other colors with acrylic paint.
