Segmented Blanks Prepared

Spent today cutting up the blanks and and preparing them ready to finish sometime next week ..

Two Omega's, one Sedona and one Baron Pen ..

Very nice Jim, how do you prepare the surfaces that are to be glued together? :thinks:

After slicing them Ray, just a light rub on 120 grit sand paper .. Also rolling up the same grit and poking it from the tube holes making they are clear also ..


They look stunning Jim. I think they are far beyond my capabilities

I don't think so Vic, nothing difficult here just time consuming .. Plus i have seen your work remember .. :thumbs:

Lovely stuff, James! What I want to know is how you managed to get purple heart, pau amarillo, and what looks like holly together without the sanding dust messing it all up? That's always my downfall ...

And Blackwood David .. :ciggrin:

I turn the blanks down to within a few mm's of the finish, then use a skew point down to get the shape and finish needed. With the lathe stood i use 400 grit along the blank, then back to the skew with the point down i do one light pass ... :thumbs:
