Last week I was fortunate to be an instructor assistant at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tennessee USA. We taught several techniques, pen modifications and such. This is a pen I had a chance to make during an evening free turning time. Enjoy.

I called it faux because it really isn't little pieces glued together. It only appears to be. Not sure what the process is called...even if it has a name.

Great job!
Beautifully done!
I made a few of them some time ago.
With all the time and effort put into it, it's a
great feeling when it all comes together and the finished
product turns out right!!
Nice!

Thanks for adding the PDF Don, if ok with you i would like to add it to our tutorial page .. :thinks:

Just another question, why not drill the blank before slicing?

OK to add it to the tutorials. Drilling before slicing is fine but accuracy is very important. If I drill before slicing I cut the blank into about 3 inch pieces which for me tend to drill more accurately. When I drill depends on where I'm working. I do what it takes to have the hole centered in each slice.
Thanks,
Don
