because rightly or wrongly, I had assumed that it would be difficult to get a perfectly flat face for an invisible glue line. I want to split a blank lengthwise, so if the cut is not perfect, I think that it will be obvious, but could be corrected with sandpaper on a flat surface.

point taken though- your results show that your methods work!
