Having seen both John`s & Frankie`s knots I felt inspired to go play this evening, this is what I came up with.

Photo not brilliant as I took it on my I-phone

Enjoyed doing this & hopefully time allowing I`ll try a few different combinations over the next few weeks.
Thanks to John for posting up his segmented pens it really has altered the way I look at pen turning :thumbs:

OMG Doug spill the beans how did you get the colour not to go beyond the knot well done mate.

Oh do I wish I`d took photos now, but as I was only messing about I just got on with it to see how it turned out.
It only took 15 minutes to do so I`ll do another tomorrow & post up pictures if you like?

I need to look at it as this segmenting thing is a complete mystery to me as to how it's done, and what tools are needed to do it.

I find the single most important thing without doubt when doing this segmenting lark is ...........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................CA de-bonder :goesred::funny::vangry:

Yes mate, I`ve been trying all manor of things to incorporate thick aluminium into my blanks but so far to no avail, so trying this tonight made a nice change :phew:

Hey Doug, when you say "thick" how thick are you talking? :thinks:

The aluminium I got hold of is 1mm thick Jim, my problem appears to be heat build up as I try to drill the blank, the epoxy softens as it gets warm & eventually lets go before the hole is drilled :vangry:

I`ve tried thick CA but it didn`t give an even enough glue line & the blanks broke down during turning, I bought some different CA from Harrogate so need to try this out at some point, but I want to get some turning done at the mo as I`ve messed about with this aluminium for long enough, another one that will sit on the back burner for a while :thinks:

You should try drilling and resting Doug and give the ally a chance to cool down then it should be OK other wise the heat build up will destroy any glue line mate and some woods
