Monday my therapists told me I didn't have to make the twice weekly 60 mile round trip but could work on my own for the next 8 weeks and then return for evaluation. It's possible I could be released at that time. I must be doing something right because therapy was supposed to last until the end of November. That being said it's time for me to get back to the shop. Yesterday I cut 10 Walnut blanks and 120 veneer strips. These will be triple veneer blanks of walnut, maple and mahogany.

Take a guess
I presume you cut the blanks on the scrollsaw Terry? Do you cut your veneers on the bandsaw?

Also while I'm in questioning mode what glue do you prefer for assembling the blanks?

I look forward to seeing your progress.

Another question for you, do you square up the blanks after you finished the segmenting? :thinks:

Yes, I cut the blanks with a scroll saw. The veneer is cut in strips with a utility knife and 3ft long straight edge and cut to length with scissors. http://www.menards.com/main/p-2750917-c-9123.htm?tid=-4827494607754377145
I use white Elmers wood glue.

Jim, I do trim the ends flush.

Terry splice the main brace mate long patience and persistance pays off thats a longish journey you have had to make mate for treatment. Interested in your approach to blanks neat do do it like Frank Sinatra your way. I have had to postpone my physio using the stretch band, stand cycle etc for a couple of months.

When you set those blanks up its a good day may you continue on the up.

Jim not usually. I trim the glue squeeze out and veneer that sticks up after each glue up with the utility knife. I have 4 straight edges, 3/4, 7/8, 15/26, & 1 inch. I make the strips equal to the blank thickness for little or no waste. The straight edges are 1/4 inch plexiglass. After making over 600 serpentine blanks I have the process down pretty good.
