Hi all, a good friend messaged me to tell me some bad news, one of his good customers had damaged his Perazzi shotgun stock and wondered if I would like it.... Heck yeah!!
The replacement stock will be somewhere in 4 figures and probably a trip to Italy to select the blank.... The offcast is costing me a couple of walnut fountain pens, one to the customer and one out to Italy to Perazzi....

They are that good that they chequer the foot of the butt as opposed to fitting a recoil pad.... I best do something special with the Walnut, I know it won't be a CA finish!

Lovely looking bit of walnut, Mark, with an interesting grain. ( I'm a bit envious..... Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's walnut )

It should indeed be interesting. There used to be a stall at one of the regular Bisley Camp fairs that sold off cuts from walnut stocks. Would have been ideal for pen makers but I don’t suppose you get many at Gun fairs!

Hi William, there are still gun fairs and Millitaria markets, just not highly publicised ( I wonder why)
I used to have a few stockers local to me who indeed would sell cut offs from blanks, not always cheap and not always with the grain.... I have found a nice supplier of laminate stock offcuts, they work nicely... But decent walnut is getting harder to source especially with "sustainability" policy's.
I have cut a few old stocks up, they can be wasteful with fixing holes and lock cut outs, but they can be a good source especially at this price

Well done. Should make some very nice pens. Reading your post reminded me I have full rifle stock that came off a .303 P14. Not sure what the wood is I will have to have a look.
