Sierra Click Pen kit not working

Hi all,

I have purchased some Sierra click pen kits to make from Turners Retreat. After turning my first blank and assembling the pen I noticed in the kit (and all the kits) that the Chrome extensions are missing, the instructions say that you need this when assembling with the parker style refill that is supplied with the kit. Sure enough the pen mechanism does not work properly without it.

The confusing thing is that there are very similar kits available but they do not require these chrome extensions when using the supplied parker style refill, but they look identical. Do i really need these chrome extensions to make the mechanism work, or are these kits faulty.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Derek, My only advice would be that if you want to make a click pen with a mechanism that is second to none then get yourself some Tempest Pens from Phil Dart at Beaufort Inks. I have tried the majority of click pens on the market and without doubt the Tempest is spot on. Sorry I can't help with your Sierra problem I stopped buying their clicker because of the problems that I had with them. Once you've tried a Tempest you will see what I mean about their quality

Comparing apples with apples is important. Getting in touch with your supplier at this time could solve the problem first up.

I had an issue with a pen kit from turner's retreat i rang them and they managed to resolve the problem and even replaced tubes free of charge so i could make it up as it should be. They are very helpful and not wanting to sell you something and turn there back on you

I made one of the extensions bits out of plastic for some one that lost it, after wards I found I could have got a give away pen and use the extension bit out of it.

I thought I would give those who gave me comments an update. I called Turners Retreat and they told me that their kits had been changed and the chrome extensions are not used anymore and the mechanism has a longer piece of white plastic. They said I was using old instructions, funny that I got them from their website. So if this change to the mechanism was to improve things they were wrong, it was a very poor kit and I did not want to ruin another blank and give a pen of this quality out and then to be told it had failed. They have agreed to reimburse the price of the three kits to me. I have taken Vics advice and bought some click pens from Beaufort ink.

There are not many click pens that I would buy as there are so many stories and personal failures. So i now don't buy any at all and stick with the twist type.

You can shorten the length of the tube to exclude the extension. That style is grossly inferior to the modern styles of today.
