Here is a comparison of the hawthorn and field maple leaves and typical cuts from the timber. What do you think bassethound? A key thing to look for on the leaf is where the stalk joins the base of the leaf. In the hawthorn the leaf runs down into the stalk but in the maples there is a notch where the stalk joins with a bit of the leaf making a lobe at each side. One thing I know about hawthorn is that it is notoriously hard to dry without getting faults in the wood. I can't see any faults in those pens at all....:encouragement:
