Hi Guys, i've never had this problem before so not sure what could be wrong. I've had a customer message me saying that a slimline pen refill is going back into the pen when she tries to write. She says the top half of the pen turns. Any idea what the issue could be?

Thankfully it's not common but it could be a faulty transmission, I have had this happen a couple of times on some of the 'cheaper' kits. I had to knock apart and fit new transmissions and stop buying of flee bay! It took a bit of research but i now pay the same for my slims, but know their source of origin and am happy with their quality:thumbs::thumbs:

I agree with Mark. It is a known symptom of good ol' Chinese quality control. The solution is to avoid the ebay sellers and penlitsfrommysparebedroom dot com, all of which are Chinese, usually from Rizheng, and just buy Taiwanese slimlines, the mechanisms of which are much better. Turners Retreat do a good line in better quality slimlines, which are Berea brand from Taiwan.

Or to upgrade the mechanism to a Taiwanese one.
Upgrade 7mm type mechanism

One swallow doth not make a summer. Choices are best made on majority of best, better and so on.So easy to critique so hard to get past bias.

I agree with Mark's assesment.
The tranny is not ''locking in'' when the
refill is extended. You need to change the transmission.
I've had faulty transmissions no matter where they came from.

If the tranny was not inserted far enough into the brass tube it will not
lock the refill when extended.
The top section being loose on the tranny can de a result on a slightly over sized tube ID.

Thanks Mark, I don't make many if them and I think they are if the cheaper variety.

My general remark re bias applies to all things. When i press mechanisms I run them in and out and you cal feel if there is a problem,I always press mechs extended, helps me.

One of my worst experiences re choices came in a court of law where I appeared for a friend as an expert witness. I learnt that subjective evaluation defeats any call,ie is the item or service to be paid for is real iffy. My friend lowered her claim and romped in the full amount in the lower claims court where the overbright legal people back off prosecuting.

The general and not accurate assumption is articles from mainland China are so far removed in quality from Taiwan peoples republic of China, this is not so these day good ,bad and indifferent abound in both places. On trips from one of our largest suppliers here in Australia to both China it became evident so many pen related dealers have businesses on both sides, many of the shop fronts when visited revealed teams of workers reducing huge numbers of items to the small plastic sleeves we are familiar with. In one instance passing a guy in a side street making quality brass tubes for pens etc. Another truth I find hard to understand is we pay in our currency, lose heavily into US dollars, pay air freight that turns out to be another racket actually using air mail postage.

It rests uneasy with me when wholesalers also retail from the same premises.

Kind regards Peter.

What used to annoy me was how some retailers who bought in bulk were able to retail products cheaper than I could buy at trade prices.....( Not within the pen trade I hasten to add)
