Slipping on mandrel.

The first pen blanks I tried were slipping on the mandrel and I discovered the glue hadn't stuck. Applied more glue and left overnight. Stuck solid (I think).

Tried to turn and they're still slipping, no matter how tight the brass nut is.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Tony, If the glue is solid, then it can only be slipping on your bushes, I would check you haven't run out of thread on the mandrel (I know a 'friend' who did that) just put another spacer on the bar! :thinks::thinks:

I use a Mandrel saver which is basically a hollow rotating tail centre into which the mandrel rod slides. The tailstock can then press up to the bushes and blanks to ensure everything is tight with little risk of bending the rod.

Something that happens when many start pens is that even though the mandrel is tightened is that they try to take bigger cuts than is needed which will stop the blank. Try taking lighter cuts if doing it from a square blank also try to remove some of the corners.
