My brother doesn't want nice pens 'because they might get stolen'. Uses 50p bic pens ... But I wanted to make him something nice, and he is into building plastic model aircraft, so when I saw this idea on pen makers Guild I got on with it. The box is ash, the handle is spalted beech from the firewood I acquired recently. Handle finished with around 12 coats of water-thin CA, box finished with acrylic sanding sealer and four coats of acrylic wipe-on poly.

C&C welcome.

That is a fantastic gift and very personal David. He must be over the moon with that as would anyone. You are one hell of a brother.

What is the black box?

Take a guess
That is a beautiful gift David & very well made :thumbs:

Could I ask what you have used to hold the blade in as from the looks of things the blade is replaceable? I'm interested as I made a marking knife to a similar design years ago but resorted to gluing the blade in, I could do with making another & a replaceable blade would be a more satisfactory answer.

David the best possible of all gifts to recognise anothers passions and celebrate with them by creating something no one else has done for your brother before in such a handsome box as well, full marks and salutations.:claps::claps:

Doug, it's an X-acto 'A' handle (like this one). The handle is cut down and the remaining stub glued into the wood blank. I sort of followed this tutorial on Penmakers' Guild.
