Thought I'd mark my 400th post with my first pen made from my delivery from Timber Bits.

A chrome Euro made with cross cut spalted Beech, an off cut from my vase blank, finished with CA.

I`d be interested to know what you think of the photo, I made a light tent this afternoon from a couple of pieces of white cardboard, horseshoe shaped with card sellotaped on top & bottom. There`s still reflection & I`m not completely happy with it, just wondering what else I could do to improve.

Lovely pen smashing bit of wood well turned fitted and finished .
Maybe a bit more pen less background for the picture but still excellent.

My lights are too yellow, how do you get yours so white?

The lights in the workshop are daylight fluorescent tubes & give off a very bright white light, I think this might be why I'm getting so much reflection.
I'll play around with switching a few off when taking a any photos tomorrow, ironically I didn't get as much reflection on my I-phone :nooidea:

I`ll also have a go at cropping as you Suggest Brian, it does help, only thing is the troubles I have with Photobucket tend to happen when I`m editing on there, I`ll just have to persevere:iknow:

Thanks for all the comments

Well i would never had guessed the wood Doug ... Super finish and nice style .. You can tell a big difference with this picture compared to some of your previous images, so i do believe it has improved the picture quality tremendously .. And a big well done on reaching the 400 mark ...

Free download works on all platforms best free image manipulation ever I have recommended for years and nobody has ever complained about its abilities only that it takes a lot of getting used to.
Just remember to right click its all in there. GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program

David, really nice pen.

Photograph the pen sideways on rather than legthwise, diffuse your flash (either place tracing paper over it or even smear a little vaseline or something over it) or place some white card under the flash to bounce the light upwards away from your subject and off the top of your light tent.

Do you ever sleep Brian?

Doug, the pen is superb, lovely wood and nice pen kit to boot as well.

I agree with everyone else on photo, the only other thing I would say is the picture looks a little out of focus. ( changed my specs a few times to make sure I had the right ones on :funny:)

Some cameras have focus limitations and you will need to be a set distance away from you pens to ensure they are crisp clear.
I have found that I have had to take the picture including many pieces of background in that I didn't want to be in then edit them out and enlarge the picture.. Just make sure that you take the picture at the highest resolution possible as that gives you playing room on your PC?

Hope this helps.
