You may find it much better to sharpen your bowl gouge and take the last two cuts with that.
I always sharpen before the last few cuts and you will be surprised at the difference it makes. A standard grind on the gouge would be best for this shaped bowl as it can go around the corners better at the bottom of the bowl without the bevel rubbing to hard which as you know can cause bruising.
Not all woods take a scraper and as you found they can pull the fibres even if you have just sharpened them.
