I had a quick look at my woodpile today and noticed a few branches of Silver birch has spalted. I cut one up which made 100 blanks and then made this from one of them with an Ebony Band. No boiling involved.

Paul, having obviously continued the detail in the pen through the most appropriate band was a masterstroke IMHO. In one of my sheds there is a fair number of tree rounds the spalting in our climate is no where near as prevalent as over your way. The pics show you effort well. Choosing the black kit takes the style to its conclusion. One to be happy with.
