Hi.

My last post to introduce myself!

Never one to duck a challenge I responded to my eldest son's a couple of years ago when he suggested that making a pen out of a spark plug would be difficult!

The ceramic cannot be machined using "normal" tooling - so I cut the plug body in half and extracted the central ceramic part. Then I made replacement parts using acrylic and stainless steel.

The ceramic element of the plug is replicated in ivory acrylic and a home-made transfer is then applied and lacqured. Inside the body is a credit card tube and mechanism. You remove the screw-on terminal and twist the plug body to extend the pen tip.

Nice job. As a point of interest you can drill ceramic with glass drills. They’re available in a good range of sizes and aren’t expensive. Alternatively if you wanted to use real ceramic there is a machineable ceramic called Macor, but I don’t think it’s cheap.

Thanks William. Didn't know any of that - food for thought and investigation!

Cheers!
