Grandson phoned me the other day and asked if spindles are any good to use on my lathe, being a bit of a tight git I said bring em over and i will have a look, and they were longish door handle spindles, very hard steel, so this is what I used em for!

Very clever Ted. How do they compare to. HSS tool steel?

I think it the same Chas, holds the sharpening results the same length of time, he is trying to get some more lol. turned around on the tool holder makes it a great post for using your wood turning tools on the metal lathe as well!

In the past I have never seen greater use for door spindles mate nearly every door in ours is fitted with one but none so hard in steel as yours. Great idea thanks for sharing.

Great find. I think you need to do something with the wood lathe everything seems to attract to it:rolling::funny::funny::funny:

Hmm that's interesting, I have a number of those lying about so will give it a try. I didn't think they would be that hard as I've never had a problem cutting to size with a hacksaw.
thanks for the tip.

Bob these ones are about 5inches long and I can't even scratch them with a hacksaw, I am trying to see if I can get some more, I tried cutting a bit of steel Radiator key on the lathe this morning with the tool I made...Crap pics from the tablet!
