On some of the finished pens I have made especially the darker woods I have noticed tiny white spots showing , are they pores in the wood or deep grain I haven't sanded properly? I don't use any sealer before sanding could that be the problem?? is there anything I can do to disguise them ? :thinks:

Roy can you see if the spots are under the CA or above?

when I googled it, someone said it might have been caused by using too low a grit sandpaper as it might create small potholes in the wood and dust can settle in the hole then the CA covers it up but it shows through later? is that a possibility?

Only if you use a cheese grater:devil:

Some of the exotics do have natural pores in the wood which could fill with dust.
I think you would have to start with a low grit and then jump to a high one to create the scenario suggested.

Yes it is. When you have finished sanding the blank, before you put on the CA then wipe it down with acetone, another thinners or blast it with air. i alway use a loop close up to see if there is anything in the grain, but only because I have not got my former vision.

That's a jewellers loupe for those who don't know.
It does look from the pic that either it is dust under the ca or grain filled with polish after ca application.
I would try buffing it out, if it is polish that has hardened it will come out easily.

if that doesn't work, I will sell it and say its the natural form of the wood and its supposed to be there!!

I have had this problem recently and it turned out to be external to the final wax, at first i could not do anything with it, I left it for a couple of days, (whilst thinking what i may do), when I went back the spots were easily removed with my finger nail, leaving no residua or mark. :rolling::rolling::rolling:

Take it back as far as you need to get the spots out and then re-apply the CA, it will be worth it.

Why would you apply wax over CA?

Some people have some very strange finishing techniques Pete I don't bother asking anymore.
I have even heard of some fool using ajax and toothpaste, Bloody stupid if you ask me init?
If it don't cost a fortune it ain't worth using izit?
