Spruce wood

I went for a walk today near where i live, the wooded area is being turned back to heathland as it was years before.
All the spruce trees have been cut down, i found three bits that i think would be suitable for small bowls. Anyone know what it's like to turn.
There is loads of suitable bits and there is a car park quite close, if anyone lives near Blackbushe airport in Hampshire let me know.

Turn it now, you'll get great shavings and a bit of a shower! Turn it an equal wall thickness and it'll just move rather than split.
It does become quite brittle to work once properly dry. Think Pallet wood! Most softwood pallets in the UK are made from Spruce. Others are made from other splitty wood, Poplar.

For many years I bought very cheaply Spruce packing cases used to transport Glass from Europe loved it dry.

I use pallet wood mostly Spruce for all sorts of things, not much for turning though but it's freeeeeeeeeee!!!
