Hi all,

Thought I would have a go at staining some blanks. This is (I think) is Burr Elm. I placed it is some Cactus Juice under ]vacuum with some red colouring bought from Metal Clay.

It did not come out as uniformly coloured as I would have liked, definitly unique.

Cheers,
Frederick

Some woods seem to accept the dyes more than others. Longer soaking time before turning the pump on and longer under vacuum and also longer soaking before releasing helps a lot. Sawes aka (Scott Walker) could advise more, he does a lot of this.

But looks ok, sometimes a subtle colour change looks good.

Someone will love it.

I have to agree as above, sometimes subtle colours look great, that looks very natural and adds character to the blank, as opposed to a very red or pink blank.
I like it well done:thumbs::thumbs:
