The journey begins! For my first try I am going for the TM Epislon, after a bit of recommendation from Robbie. I opted for some Brazilian Brown Ebony that we bought yesterday from Lignatarre, so thought I would post pictures of the progress - even if it is a dismal failure! :fingers:

Drilled the blank on the lathe with an 11/32 drill bit. Robbie kept telling me to pull the drill out and clean the drill flutes as the ebony shavings were packing into the flutes. Seemed to drill out OK, so now sat waiting for the Gorilla glue to harden before I can start the next bit.

Helen.
Thank you for posting your work so far please do keep us informed along the way.
You are in good hands with your instructor and many of us could use a lesson in going back to basics.
It never hurts to remind yourself of why we are here.
Good on ya babe init?

Meanwhile....

Glue is dry, top and tailed (oh, that's the carrots for tea.... ), suitably trimmed down to the right amount.

Mounted, ready for turning

This is after roughing it to round, getting nearer to turning it to the correct diameter. Learning how to rub the bevel. Sounded a bit rude at first! :shocking:

Turned down, sanded and wiped with IPA.

Who made all this mess on the floor? :rolling:

Very minimal input from me, other than making sure she didn't wreck my lathe. :praying: . A few what to do and why words. But otherwise all done by herself. Didn't even glue her fingers together.

Sounds like you enjoyed yourself making the first one. Now all you need is a corner of the shed for your own lathe:whistling::whistling::whistling:
