This was my first time turning something that wasn't wood. Its a steampunk kit from penn state in antique pewter and antique copper with a custom made blank made to look like a boiler plate.

Sorry Stephen.... I believe the blank is wasted on the pen kit. The kit is busy anyway and I think it would have looked better on a simpler kit to show it off more..

Don't get me wrong, the finish and shape is spot on but it's not my bag.i

Photography and layout is also good..

Ghastly! Like Silver, I'm not criticising your work just the end result. I've seen better sights in a scrap metal yard, lol!

If you're happy with it that's all that matters.

I am quite like the whole steampunk scene. It inspires my imagination. This pen is spot on for the genre. Steampunk items are meant to look busy in my opinion with odd metal plates and cogwheels, steam operated devices and all that stuff. So that said a barrel that looks like it is a boiler for a steam operated pen is perfect. It would be more useful if the people who were negative had actually suggested a wood to use with the kit if they feel it would look better.

It's certainly not for me but it looks very well made and I am sure that there are many who will think it is the dogs.

I am not really into this futuristic stuff mind you in saying that me and the Mrs are planning to watch a film tonight called "Grease" some guy called John Travolta ? Is it it so I do move with the times

You are entitled to have your oppinion Chris. You will learn that it's what the forum is all about.

But in my oppinion steam punk is not meant to be busy.. :face:

It would be more useful if the people who were negative had actually suggested a wood to use with the kit if they feel it would look better.

I wasn't actually negative, just not my taste or to my liking, having seen so many steam punk kits this one didn't hit the mark.(only my opinion)

As for recommending different woods and different kits that again is subjective and personal "in yours or my opinion"

So I never recommend kits, wood or anything else as that would only create another SILVER and no one on here would want that now would they..:face:

Just for the record, I would have put a pink Ivory, axe head, Purple Heart, or even a camo blank. Then again I may even put and old oak with a nice red chestnut stain.

Then again I could even put a nice pink flamingo blank on it..:whistling:

So you see, I have many other ideas but that wouldn't suit everyone would it?o

Only my opinion, the pen is finished really really well and a very good job has been done with the component part turned, finished and put together.

So all in all it's a great pen, just not my taste. Simple..

PSI have a program on their web site which allows the user to see their blanks on their pens. Worth checking out. For me I like the kit, maybe with a single colour blank, black in my case. Like has been said we all have our own tastes. Which is why this forum works.

Whilst not keen on the kit. I think the kit and the blank married together are perfect for anyone into Steampunk

I think it's absolutely perfect. Steampunk is busy by definition, and a busy blank is the perfect compliment to a steampunk pen. Well done, in my opinion! Could you tell us how you made the blank?
