This is the celebrated Empress Pen kit with one of my watch part blanks, I made this as a commission after advising that they go for a Majestic and took an £80.00 deposit. The customer has decided that they will go for a Majestic after all to match the 3 they already have. They are happy to loose the deposit, I am happy for them.

Peter,

Thats fantastic, but the top and that sticker thing? You've dome really well to get the parts in there, what would you recommend is the minimum thickness between tube and finished blank to get these components into? I have a box of watch bits but havent managed to get the time to have a play yet.

What sticker thing?

As to minimum thickness I have always worked on the principle that if there is at least 1 millimetre of resin above the parts then it's okay, I haven't had any returned. I did come close to ruining one when I turned through the resin to reveal the centre of the hands, you could only tell that I had done that because when I micro-meshed it the centre of the hands was brighter and shinier that the rest of the hands, but I could simple have put a few coats of CA on it and it would have been fine. I kept it to see what happened to the hands, but they are still as bright and shiney as the day it was made.

I thought it was a sticker as well at first glance Peter but it's a watch face I assume.

Fantastic piece of work btw

That is one fantastic blank. I'm not surprised they wanted to change it for the majestic, the Empress is too busy for it but its lovely all the same. I can see what Neil means about the watch face which probably looks more in place, in hand than it does in the photo. I wouldn't say no to it though.:thumbs::thumbs:

Thank you, yes it is a watch face specially selected as the customer had some history with Time Magazine. Sticker, sticker if it wasn't against copyright that would be a great idea, I wouldn't have to pay a premium for Tag Hauer and Rolex watch faces.

Ok - can now see that its a watch face. It probably does look much better in the hand as opposed to the picture, but it make no difference, I dont like the watch face! Think its a lovely piece of work, and the reason that i dont like the face is two fold, firstly I just dont like it, but secondly it gives the cogs identity. Steampunk is a combination of industrial science fiction cum Jules Verne type stuff and think the imagnation should be allowed to wander without guidance. Dont like the watch face, love every other bit of it. Cracking job, looking forward to doing some in the new year.

Maybe I shouldn't have said steampunk, I was being facetious as I hate the classification of steampunk for these kind of blanks, these are anything but steampunk, metal clad watch part pens is a better class. The watch face is neither here nor there, I was asked to use that one and I did, I have about 200 much nicer watch faces. I advised against the beautiful Empress kit, I also advised against the watch face, but it was relevant at the Time. I look forward to seeing your blanks.

Don't know what to make of the steampunk trend, went to one steam fair and there were loads of followers there, they all had a huge party in one of the marquees, all the ladies were dressed in a combination of what can only be described as gothic science fiction burlesque, complete with visible stockings and very risqué other attire, all made for very entertaining viewing. Didn't see any car keys in the centre of the table but wouldn't have been in the slightest bit surprised!

Love the pen call it as it is Watch Parts Pen I have read heated discussion over the years like Tomato and Tomato depends who says it. You used an unusual background with a nice design for a great result.
