I though i would look into getting a Steb Drive, i chose this one below as i liked the price £11.00, Inc VAT & Delivery!
I have not tried it yet but i plan to tomorrow, what i can say is those sharks teeth are damn sharp! i may well get the tailstock one as well as it is only a 1/2 inch diameter.

Watching a production turner using one they virtually halve the time between replacing turnings on the run. Even as a darn good drive they are great value IMHO having used different sizes for many years one size does not fit all.

You will have fun with it.

I found out how sharp they are on my short bed lathe, I had just taken some thing off the lathe, spun around then claret was gripping every where.
I have wanted a swing away tail stock ever since, only problem it will be near $1000.00 to get one here.:sob:

Yep thats where i got mine. I used it today and it is far better that the drive that came with the lathe, none of that whacking the drive into the wood.
I do think they should be called Stab Drives, yep went to get it from the small tool holder at the rear of my lathe and stabbed the tip of my finger on it, it's still good though.

I've been looking at these for a while, wondering whether to get one. I need a smaller one though, anyone any idea where to get a half inch one in a MT2 at a decent price?

I have just ordered a live and dead centre from the link Ken and Derek supplied, I could be talking rubbish but I think the trade name "steb" belongs to Robert Sorby. I have bought "Crown" drives.
