I haven’t posted much for a while having been on an enforced slow down after the surgeons decided that they want to play with the zipper they stuck in my chest 3 times since September. Anyway I'm back at 95% functionality (it won’t get more than that), and I have had a successful couple of weeks. I’ve made a few more bandsaw boxes (more on those in a later post).
And I have made a few pens, since they are predominately wood I’ll stick them all here.
Firstly a very nice chap on the forum called Frederick made me some blanks on sirocco tubes with a RAF theme for a project I have, 2 of which came as extras and which he kindly had pre-turned.
Those 2 disappeared very quickly. So they are now all done and ready.
Then a sculptor friend convinced me to go to a wood mill specialising in exotic woods…. Big mistake I spent mega bucks and bought a 22kg block of rose wood!! and a board of Caribbean Mahogany.
On the way to the mill he asked me if I could make him a pen out of New Caledonian Kauri (he had lived there for 42 years) and gave me a piece of his cupboard sufficient for 3 pens, it’s rare because you aren’t allowed to cut them down anymore.
Then followed a Virage fountain pen out of Elm and Wenge just because the scroll saw was getting bored!!
Just for fun I made a 7mm Berea kit in Acacia and added a stylus tip
Finally I noticed that I still had 2 Leveche kits left so I thought I would make a roller ball of Thuya burl and a fountain pen of Tulip wood.
Not too bad considering that the afternoons were confined to the house because of the S of France heatwave which peaked at 45.
Dont worry I wont show you the next 30 7mm basic pens that I make, they will just be boring Malbec Grape Vine.
